Sharm El Sheikh - 28th december-10th January

How Is sharm el sheikh like? Hows the nightlife? Drinking aspect? Can you drink anywhere or only in certain areas/in your resort?

How is it like bringing women to your hotel/resort? Do the staff care?

What best currency to use out there?

Anyone gone from sharm el sheikh to giza to see the pyramids and then back same day? (Is that expensive?)

Many thanks,

I suggest that you do a bit of research on where you are going to.

A quick look at a map to see where the two places are located will help you. It would take you around 7 hours to drive between the two on a good day so a day trip is out of the question. This leaves flying as the only option via an organised tour. I would start by googling possible tours for a price.

...and eVisa requirements if you are leaving Sharm.

.... and worth checking your travel insurance given that the Middle East is sadly a war zone at the moment (though appreciate that Sharm is a distance away from actual fighting).

Egypt is fairly relaxed in general however there are further laws carving out the tourist hot spots like Sharm from the normal rules like no alcohol sales during Ramadan. Drinking age is 21 but not strictly applied.

Are you male or female? As long as you are reasonable in the public areas of the hotel they won't particularly care who goes in your room or what goes on behind that door. Slightly more likely to be an issue if you are also female.

You'll think this is crazy but for some odd reason it's the Egyptian Pound. Many places will take other major currencies but give you a poor exchange rate and your change will be in local currency.

Depends if you fly or go by coach. The later is normally around £70 but its 7-8 hours each way and you'll need to factor in paying for a visa. By plane it's about £175 each plus visa etc.

Everyone wants to see the pyramids but personally... not that interesting. I think Luxor is a much more interesting and impressive area but from Sharm it's realistically only available by plane (14 hr drive each way) and so more expensive.

Be careful if buying something. Ask if it's Egyptian pounds or English pounds they are talking. This is a common way to trick tourists into paying more than expected.

    Tipping is common practise.

Drinking outside the resort just take care. You are a sitting duck for pickpockets and such. They will have been told you're available.
Give one person your name and half the town will know it. Like lightening it spreads and everyone is everyones cousin/uncle/brother.

Lucky you getting warm weather at this time of year!

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
