Take it to a repairer if the above doesn't work. We used to apply a squirt of Electrolube contact cleaner/lubricant on TV volume controls. It could be applied where the solder tags are and find its way inside, That mostly worked but if needed repeatedly, the only answer was a new volume control (often called a pot or potentiometer). The carbon track inside the pot can deteriorate after some years.
Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.

did you try the suggestion above ie turn the speakers off and then rotate the volume knob quickly up and down - sort of to clean the track
My apologies I seem to have missed that.

Rotated the volume knob Min to Max to Min to Max fairly quickly.

While it hasn't fixed the problem it does seem to have improved the situation.

I haven't heard the term "dirty pot" since my roadie-ing days back in the last century. Solution was always to turn it up (to 10) and turn it down again, hard.
Surely turning it up to 11 would be better!
    Nah, was a jazz band.
but it goes up to eleven

Just dropping back to this thread to update...

So I have some WD40 electrical contact cleaner and went at the volume knob again. This time instead of squirting the knob as it is on the speaker, I turned the speaker back on itself so that the cleaner wouldn't drip down the front - if it was going to go anywhere it would go inside. Then I combined it with the advice of turning the knob MIN to MAX to MIN to MAX & repeat.

After a bit I could feel the knob turning smoother. Just now tried out the volume & bar 1 ever so slight crackle, it's perfect.

    So thanks for the advice.
