Remote Access for Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet?

Options
Hi, my mum is disabled with only the use of one arm, she used to love doing wordsearches but can't hold books anymore, so I got her a tablet for Christmas to do them on hopefully. Her and my dad however know nothing about technology and often need my help. I don't live nearby to go round and help if they need it so I thought that I could install a remote access app on her tablet and my phone so that I can control her tablet if needed and sort any issues out, without trying to explain on the phone and have them do it while getting nowhere.

I know that I can't use TeamViewer without putting Google Play on there.

Is there any other way that I could control the tablet if needed?

Would AnyDesk work and let me have control from my phone? And is this safe? I'm scared about all the things I'm reading regarding people being hacked using these things, I don't want to risk anything, I just need to be able to help my parents with it if needed.

Thank you for any help and advice.

Surely Google Play is already on the tablet as default?

Not on fire devices. You have to use Amazon store

    Fair enough.

Another way would be to actually video call them rather than voice call them, they point the phone at the tablet so you can see what they are doing.
  • Yes, sadly Google Play isn't on Fire tablets unless you download a load of things and try and get it on.

Sadly the only phones they have are a landline and an old Nokia which isn't a smartphone, they're not up with anything technical at all. I just thought it might be easier and less stressful for all if I could just have access and do whatever it is I know they're going to be stuck on.

Thanks for the comments so far.

If it had been a standard Android tablet, then piece of cake, get something off the Play Store.

However since the Fire range is a butchered version of Android, even sticking the Play Store on it doesn't guarantee remote control will work - see the above link.  Either Amazon made more substantial changes to the underlying software, or the hardware doesn't work/talk together as it would in a regular run of the mill tablet.

It's very easy to sideload Google play on fire tablets , plenty of Google instructions on how to do it

Don't forget fire tablets use a version of android

But for remote access you need Google Services as well which is harder to do and requires the device to be from an approved manufacturer and registered device type with an actual Android version rather than a fork of AOSP.

  • Hi I used to do this on old fire tablets i don't use them now but when last checked it was still fine some apps were no longer compatible but this should work for your device

  • As above a number of issues and potentjly reduces security. You would have to have the tablet in your hands as well as follow detailed instructions. Usually requires owner intervention to agree to the remote connection when you want access. Hardly a good proposition in practice under the circumstances.

Some places have volunteers/services( charities, local council, support organisations) that may be  able to help out sometimes. Maybe worth checking, Somebody you can all trust!
