Estimated gas use always wrong on Octopus bill

Has anyone else experienced this problem with Ootopus?
I cannot get Octopus to correct the estimated useage they show on my bill each month. The figure has remained exactly the same for the last 3 years. I have spoken to them several times and told they will escalate the issue, but nothing happens.
I was even told recently its a third party that manages the database for all energy companies that provides these estimated readings and they will advise them but there's a backlog in getting it changed. Really? Can anyone confirm this.
Generally Octopus customer service is very good but I'm not so sure on this occasion as no one has helped to resolve the issue.

No not a single problem
I give them my dual fuel meter readings on the 1st of every month and they produce an accurate bill within a few days
Admittedly I don't have smart meters but if I did and I was getting estimates I would submit an accurate physical reading2 -
Are you talking about the estimated annual use? Or estimates used each month to generate the bill?1

My “smart” gas meter sends data (well it responds to the pull) if there is not a y in the day or if it’s not sulking. I have been sending manual readings from before I joined Octopus this march. I usually get a bill within 2-3 days.
I would suggest you do the same until the DCC rolls out updates for the meter, the third party, or until Octopus give you a replacement. Its very odd.....we dont have a smart meter by the way. The estimated use quoted on the bill just doesnt change, That means everytime there'a a price change the info they send is based on inaccurate data, So I then have to ring them to make sure I'm paying the correct DD for my annual use.
I've asked them to change it but it just doesn't happen. Maybe I need to speak to another department and not the first line of custimer service. Does anyone have a direct number to a more senior department where I can esclate the problem

I am assuming you are referring to the estimated annual usage / estimated annual cost that appears on the right-hand side of the bill?
It has no direct bearing on anything. Why is it a problem to you?

Just that everytime there is a price change Octopus sends me details of my new payments based on this figure - not my true & accurate useage, So its always over estimated by about 10000kwhs. Thats why I have to ring them eveytime to ensure they take the correct DD.0

You can change your DD yourself on your account so work it out yourself and change it to what you think it should be.0

We all have that estimated figure which is just an estimate as is the forecast of every months cost
I run a spreadsheet and my figures are lower than the estimate and octopus have recommended a reduced DD that I wont agree to, I like to be in credit especially this time of year.
If you want Octopus to stop increasing your DD either reduce your usage or increase the DD above what your energy is actually costing, no more phone calls no more stress

I cant reduce it anymore........I wish I could🙂.......... On their estimation they would want another £80 per month.Like you I always pay over so I'm in credit but I'm not prepared to give them another £1000 per year in addition for inaccurate data, I just dont understand why they cant change it to the correct useage, The electric is accurate. But not the gas.0

If you can't reduce the amount further through their website, try ringing Octopus. This worked for me.Decluttering awards 2025: 🏅🏅⭐️ ⭐️, DH: ⭐️ and one for Mum: 🏅0
