Albermarle said:I suspect you either need to go white for the windows, or a strong non-wood - colour. That could be anything from anthracite to the lovely green shades you showed us before. Ie, you don't pretend that PVC is wood.
Just be aware that white is the standard product for all UPVC window profile ( that the frames are fabricated from) . Any colour involves an extra mainly manual manufacturing process, where a thin sheet is rolled onto the surface, and held there with adhesive. A bit like stickyback plastic, although it is a somewhat more technical/expensive product, as it has to withstand the weather for many years.
Inevitably this pushes up the cost considerably compared to a white window.
I was thinking... paint!But, yes, warranty void.0 -
Thanks guys. I actually took some video today to give you a better context. I wont get a chance to upload it until probably day after boxing day. In the meantime, I hope you all have a relaxing christmas!1

Not looking close enough.1

hi guysHeres some video which will help put it in context.Ive laid out a bit of wood showing where the new wall will come out to.
A floor plan:
Ive dont like windows with horizontal openers as they remind me of windows you have in toilets. Maybe thats just me. So Im thinking the side window should be side-hinged and the right window top-hinged, because I suspect there will be building regs regarding how such a big window can be opened. (Does you know?) All other windows will be fixed.
Photoshop mockup.
I will probably have Agate Grey rather than duckegg blue (or whatever colour it is in the original photo I grabbed the above window/doors from).
Not sure if the above will generate any further thoughts/feedback, but thought youd like to see what Ive been up to.1 -
You've been busy!I think you've cracked it - that will be a genuinely useful size of porch, and will add hugely to the appearance of your house.Anything more than this will be fine-tuning, wee tweaks, perhaps just to clarify that you've arrived at the best layout and use of windows. I can't think of anything obvious you can add to that - it looks great.I notice from your helpful vids that the current porch goes out to house-wall level, but your new design seems to stop well short, at the step's top post? From your garden, it appears that the old porch is overhanging the lower patio until it's flush with the house wall - the porch floor is cantilevered out a bit? I'd continue with that idea to keep that max floor and porch space, as to reduce the porch length will bring that end wall quite close to the house's entrance door, won't it?0

Thanks @ThisIsWeird ! I feel I have a better idea as to what I want now, and it should certainly help the builder.
That section of the porch is overhanging with NO support whatsoever! It was literally falling down when I bought the house, so my solution was to place a strategic pebble under the side post. Thats the extent to my DIY skills Im afraid! But it has worked!!

That alcove is currently just to store some firewood. Theres also a drain where the downpipes feed into. You raise an interesting point though, perhaps I could create even more floor space if I made the wall in line with the rear wall.

I personally would. And it's what you currently have.
In fact it will be easier now, since that corner will be fully supported by the step's wall as it'll come on to it fully.

Thanks so much @ThisIsWeird . Ill post update photos here when work begins (probably May) so you can see it become reality!2
