Best way to temporary Insure 2 cars at once?

So to cut a long story short I have ordered a new car which I am collecting this Saturday, my current car is on Contract Hire and the hire company has messed up collection dates and instead of collecting this Friday they are instead not collecting it till the 3rd Jan now which is 3 weeks away, they have insisted I must keep the car insured though until it's collected and are requesting an insurance quote to cover the cost of the additional insurance

What is the most efficient way of insuring the 2 vehicles at the same time? I got a quote for a change of car which was going to be £70. But my current insurance company doesn't offer insurance for the old car,  they suggested I keep the current car on it and take out a new policy for the new car, although a new policy is double what my current one was,  also once I had the old car back to cancel the policy there is a £60 mid term cancellation fee

I was considering doing the change of vehicle at £70 and taking out temporary 1 month insurance on the old car but is there any reliable main providers that offer temporary 1 month insurance? The ones on google seem to just been online companies that I've never heard of?

Does anyone have any suggestions of the most sensible way of doing this?

Will the car be parked on private land and not used during the insured period? If so, look at Laid Up Insurance options.

Alternatively short term insurance may work out cheaper than a full policy. https://www.gocompare.com/car-insurance/short-term/

Laid up in theory should be cheaper but in reality it often isn't because there isn't much competition.

In addition to looking at short term insurance also ask your current insurers about adding the other vehicle as a Temporary Additional Vehicle... for durations over a few days its often cheaper than buying a separate policy, especially if you have an insured only policy (ie no named drivers)
