Unable to withdraw funds in Canada

Hi, I am currently in Canada and can not withdraw funds from either my credit card account or current account (Lloyds TSB). Other members of my family also had the same problem earlier in the year. All the accounts are in credit and i have tried several different machines. I have Canadian relatives that also have a lloyds tsb account in the UK who also have the same problem. They have to call Lloyds to have the account unlocked every month. Have Lloyds changed thier policy on withdrawing cash from abroad, freom what i understand i should be able to withdraw cash from 18 million cashpoints worldwide.
Any Ideas - I would call them but its xmas eve and i need cash!

  • Go into a branch of any major bank with the Visa sign (debit card) or Mastercard (credit card) together with your passport.
They might have to get a phoned authorisation.

You can call Lloyds on +44 1702 278 270 - they are open 24 hours

Its possible they have blocked your card for some reason and should be able to unblock it or authorise/arrange an emergency cash payment of some sort

  • Do be aware that some canadian cashpoints (the equivalent of the ones we find in convenience stores etc) won't accept international cards. Try one at a bank itself.

If you're really stuck, does one of your cards offer an emergency cash advance service - for example american express cards usually offer this, as do a lot of platinum credit cards.

Failing this, as ejones says, go to a bank as soon as they reopen, as they will be able to phone for authorisation.
