Extended Used Car Warranty

Be careful when buying an extended warranty cover on used cars.
I have recently purchased a used car from a local garage. Before purchasing the car I commented on an engine light being visible and was told it was nothing and any work it needed would be done. Their web site states that all used cars came with 3 months parts and labour. Deposit paid and waited eagerly! At the pick up of the car I was encouraged to buy the extended 1 year warranty at £300 which I did and off I went in my newly bought car.
One week after the purchase the engine light came back on, garage couldn't fit me in. I had it diagnosed on code reader as catalyst system error. Had to wait several weeks for it to be looked at at the garage of purchase. Car went in to be repaired, I then received an email from extended warranty company, the garage had claimed £838.85 ( Vauxhall Adam) for parts and labour on my extended warranty. Catalytic converter and Thermostat. I was confused! why is the extended warranty being used when the car is still under 3 month warranty with the garage?. Two visits to the garage and 5 unanswered phone calls later. It seems that when I took the warranty out they dated it from the day the car was bought and NOT the day the 3 month warranty from the garage ended! therefore from the day I bought the car they could claim and repair it using the warranty I bought.
How many used cars are being sold knowingly with expensive repairs needed only for customers to pay out for extended warranty's to cover the costs that the garage selling them is responsible for.
on further investigation my MOT didn't come with any emissions reading!
Is this another miss sold PPI scam?

Well that how warranties work. They start when you buy the car. So no mis selling.
Yes crafty move by company, but they did not do anything illegal.
Good news is warranty paid out.Life in the slow lane0
