Years ago anyway but the OP seems to be suggesting it has happened for them with Nationwide recently  so maybe it will be an opportunity for some others too but certainly not something I’ve seen advertised or been offered.

While Nationwide don't exactly scream from the rafters that they will give you thousands, a careful reading of the FlexDirect account page should easily verify that what I'm saying is correct i.e. the 0% amount they offer isn't a fixed measly amount, it is 12 months promotional 0% on whatever sized arranged overdraft they are be prepared to offer based on the result of a credit check.  Since they are banking on you over-running the promotional period and making money off you in the long-run it makes sense for them to offer a larger rather than smaller amount.

From the flexdirect summary page on Nationwide's website (forum won't let me paste a link):

"To find out how much we might be able to offer you, you can use our arranged overdraft eligibility tool as part of your FlexDirect application. We'll need some information about you. Things like your name, address history, employment and income. We'll run a soft credit check to see what we can offer you. This won't affect your credit score. If you choose to continue with your application, we'll run a hard credit check too."

"The representative example shows you the rate of interest we charge for arranged overdrafts. For FlexDirect, this example shows the cost once any interest-free period has ended.

If you’re in the first 12 months of opening your first FlexDirect current account, we don’t charge interest on arranged overdraft use. It’s interest free."
