New to Octopus - old smart meters

Options
I have switched to Octopus mainly because I despaired of British Gas ever taking any steps to add usage data to the website.

I knew this would mean that my SMETS 1 meters would probably become dumb but does anyone know what if anything Octopus will do to upgrade the meters. I feel (as an early adopter of smart metering from years ago) we SMETS 1 customers are being neglected.

Chances are your smets1 has been integrated to DCC network connection by now.

So won't in fact go dumb.

So Octopus won't need to do anything.

    See e.g.

    https://www.smartdcc.co.uk/our-smart-network/current-programmes/smets1-enrolment-and-adoption/

Those not suitable should have been on an upgrade / replacement path starting a whole back too.

But if not suitable for Octopus - they should be able to say so and put you on an upgrade.

Your smets 1 meter probably won't go dumb most have received updates.

Depending on where you live will depend on when Octopus can upgrade you to a smets 2 meter.

Ours is the East of England took 2 weeks.
  • Thank you both for this. I was aware of the enrolment programme but my meters couldn’t be found on checking at that time. BG had suggested that there was a problem with my gas meter. I’ve just checked again using the link and all is well.
