Leeds Bradford Travelodge

In November we stayed at the above hotel prior to a week in the sun.

Within the first 8 minutes of arriving, I purchased 24 hours of parking from the Horizon machine outside the hotel.

But I had to register the car at a Horizon terminal at the reception n the hotel.  Upon entering the car reg, the terminal crashed.  The receptionist said he'd sort it...

A week after getting back from holiday, the letter arrived.  We'd been naughty according to Horizon!

Luckily, we had the dispensed ticket from the payment terminal still.  So a photograph of that went to Horizon under an appeal - this ticket includes times, dates, parking period and car reg.  We also sent a copy of the credit card statement (censored accordingly).

No way we'd lose an appeal.

WRONG.  This morning the e-mailed me to say they'd rejected the appeal, as they have no evidence of me paying for parking, or even staying at the hotel.  Is a printed ticket from their own machine not enough evidence???

So what to do folks?  Appeal with evidence that we stayed at the Travelodge, appeal with POPLA, or ignore?

Thanks.

Ignore from now on, return here when you get a court claim. Suspect a judge would never see this case, and even if it did get that far, it would be laughed out.

Complain bitterly to the Travelodge, get them to cancel it. If not, bad reviews on Trip Advisor, social media etc.

Do you have a POPLA appeal verification reference code?
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

  • I assume Horizon have issued a Popla code?

But in the meantime bear in mind that Horizon are operating on the site as agents of Travelodge and if it was the failure of their hi-tech (lol!) equipment that led to the charge then it should be Travelodge who bears the cost not the consumer.

Find the name and email address of the chief executive officer online - www.!!!!!! - is a good place to start and complain loudly. Demand the so-called charge is cancelled and do as suggested earlier and leave reviews on Tripadvisor I'd even go as far as to let the media know about this issue
  • I've complained to Travelodge about it.  I'll have to do the TripAdvisor review later.

And I've re-appealed with Horizon, providing evidence that we stayed overnight at the hotel.

If they reject it again, I'll have to do POPLA.  Though if we do that, Horizon will chase us for £81 instead of £51.  Whatever the price tag, I'm not paying as I followed the rules.

    Could do without this.

Why didn't the keeper just appeal saying the PCN was non-POFA?  That's what the NEWBIES thread says to do.

Horizon ones are dead easy as long as the driver is not admitted.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Update folks.

The initial refusal of appeal wanted me to show evidence of a stay at the Travelodge, as visitors to the car park weren't allowed.

The second appeal therefore included a PDF copy showing evidence that we'd stayed overnight.

Anyway, today the case is closed in our favour - no need to pay the 'parking fine/charge'.

But Horizon had a choice way of putting it:- "I can confirm as a gesture of goodwill the Parking Charge Notice has now been cancelled and no further action will be taken in this matter".

Be careful when parking at this site folks.  If anything doesn't work, take photos!!!
