Faulty bulb

Hi FolksThe bulb in my bedroom went out earlier today.
I replaced it with a new one but the light still never came on.
Does that mean that the whole unit would need to be replaced?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

This can mean pretty much anything:
- new bulb is faulty too
- poor connection in the lamp-holder
- poor connection in the ceiling rose
- faulty wire
- ....

Start by checking you've got a bulb that works elsewhere. The one in the photo has an ominous grey mark that looks like it may have blown already1

I'd say a lose connection in the switch would be my first check after testing the bulb (lamp before someone complains).

When bulbs blow, they often trip the circuit breaker, so check that too.1

Is it the only light not working?geek84 said:

Before you try another bulb do you have a table lamp that is working try the bulb in that if it works try it in the ceiling light and it fails to light take it out and try it in the table lamp again to see if it lights if so it would suggest that there is a loose wire1 -
