How much stamp do I need / why does PO charge 10p more?

Options
I'm sending 2nd class large letter 250g.

Royal mail website say £2.30

Post office website say £2.40

If I were putting stamp on the envelope, how much do I need????

Is it only £2.4 if I were to pay over the counter for PO 'label' (the big square one)

If using stamps you would need to pay the Post Office price of £2.40 , the only way to get the Royal Mail price is online or via eBay.

At least that is only 10p , parcels have an even bigger price difference!

Why is there a price different? The item is going to royal mail anyway. Who keep the price different??

The post office and Royal Mail are separate companies and whilst the PO  have a fixed agreement with RM about post office services, there is nothing to stop them charging more.

You can buy royal postage via Royal Mail webpage and postman collects for free.
it’s cheaper than using post office and paying post office fee on top of Royal Mail charge.

The RM collection option is great when it works. Unfortunately it looks like my collection today is not going to happen.  All my lovely urgent parcels just sitting there almost 2 hours after the last estimated collection time….

I could buy online and take it to PO. That's what I do with my tracked 48.

But I have 1st class stamp that I want to use. So was hoping to use that then pay £1, 5p stamp.

Oh well. Online it is. Annoying as not often I get to use these stamp RM sent me after they lost my item.

    Not if it is £2.30

If postage is bought at the Post Office it is £2.40 and you wanted to use your stamps therefore the calculation is correct.
