  • I had a main switch in the consumer unit that melted due to the screw holding one of the tails being not very tight. Definitely worth getting it checked.

So the electrician came today and this is what he found! He can't make the actual repair until next Monday, but has ordered the parts and I'll be keeping the E7 off until then. Very scary to see how bad the damage is with my own eyes!
Ouch! Sounds like MSE saved you from a close call.

  • Yuk!  Even the adjacent RCD got a bit singed but hopefully that one has only surface damage.

Well done the MSE energy forum regulars! ... superb support to Bambi (OP).
  • Possible Fire prevented in the nick of time  :)
  • Thanks everyone! I am very grateful for all the support and advice here - if I hadn't been hanging around the meter cupboard around switchover time I may not have noticed this!
  • What a fantastic advert this thread is for the MSE Forum! Expert assistance provided by the forum's energy specialists which looks like it has averted a potential fire hazard and diligent OP doing all the right things to resolve the problem.
