No claims discount - rejected by Aviva

TBH I think you are going to be better off looking for another company who will accept your NCD. It's odd as we had a multicar policy with Aviva and had no problems either moving to or moving away from them.

I received an email was received today stating -
"If you don’t upload a copy of your proof of No claim discount by 10.12.2023, we’ll have to send you a cancellation notice and if we still haven’t received the documents by 15.12.2023 we’ll cancel your policy on 17.12.2023."
Even though I am disputing the outcome of the document I previously sent to Aviva, I cancelled on the spot to prevent them from doing so … avoiding any unpleasant consequences (I hope).
Aviva stated the cancellation fee was £56, but knowing how things work I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be more.
Still, I am glad to be free of them and I will find a provider who will honour my NCD, even if its my previous provider.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.1 -
Most multi-car policies are not one policy at all but multiple policies just each gets a multi-policy discount and the insurer harmonises the renewal dates and takes payment in one. They therefore do not suffer this issue as each vehicle continues to have its own policyholder and NCD.
A small minority of multi-product policies (can be cars or can combine motor and home etc) are true single policies and this is where you will run into an issue with only the single policyholder owning the NCD going forward.
Like when Direct Line introduced ND NCD they could correctly market that Named Drivers would get their own NCD however initially no one else in the market would recognise it and so if you wanted to use it you had to stay with DL. After time a few others said they'd accept it but it remained a small minority.
LV's will be similar, they'll continue to recognise your discount but any other company is down to them and the majority won't unless you can get LV to write a letter not naming another policyholder at all etc. It may be possible to take a one year policy with LV to get the NCD regularised however certainly with DL their renewal letters of those that had used ND NCD still showed 4 years NDNCD + 1 Year NCD so others would only accept the 1 year.0 -

You could always put in a formal complaint the moment they impose a charge on you. Argue that their behaviour is unfair and unreasonable. And tell them you will take it to the financial services ombudsman if they don't cancel the charge.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Nothing is simple is it!. As soon as I cancelled with Aviva I signed up with LV again, but separately from the multicar policy, making sure the new policy started on the same day, to avoid this Vehicle insurance: Uninsured vehicles - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). The new LV policy is solely in my name and I cancelled the Aviva policy (not them), so no further issues I hope.0
