Supermarket refund

I did an online order with a big supermarket beginning with A and paid using a gift card. One of the refunds was for a substitution which was unsuitable and duly recredited to the same card. The second refund was for an item where one of two was missing. I claimed a refund but this was given back as an E-voucher which is only valid for online shopping and has a six month expiry date on it. As I am unlikely to do another online shop in the near future the e-voucher refund is of no use to me. Are they allowed to do this and if not can someone point me to the relevant piece of legislation so that I can take the matter further.

They should refund via the same method so if you paid with a gift card/voucher another in return is ok.
I guess the voucher should have the same length of use but I’m sure ASDA customer service is overseas and will just stick to the script.
Usually they let you keep the item as well i.e you should have had two but they let you keep the one?In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
I'm not sure why there's a mysterious reference to the retailer, naming them won't have any consequences.
If you paid for the whole order by gift card, you're bound by the terms of that gift card. We can't see them, so you'll need to find them and read them. I suspect there's something about refunds being issued in credit form and in accordance with what they've done. If so, then yes, they're allowed to do it. If they're not acting in accordance with the gift card terms, then you should point that out.
Working that way stops someone converting an unwanted gift card into cash via a refund, thereby denying the retailer the sale they secured from the person buying the gift card.0 -

One option is to reject the whole order for a full refund to the gift card, but even that might result in an e-voucher.0 -

To clarify , I bought two of the same item but only one was delivered.
ASDA fall in to the give you free money to go away rather than offering good service camp. Can you order £40 worth of loo rolls or such on a cheap delivery slot to use up the voucher? There is an email available on the ceo email website although whether they are any better I don’t know.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
The ASDA website would also suggest that e-vouchers can only be used in George.com. Was this a George.com item? I can’t see any reference to Asda e-vouchers, only gift cards.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0
