Amazon business account requires another mobile phone number?

I have a personal Amazon Prime account & I keep getting messages from Amazon asking if I'd like to open a business account & they claim there's benefits such as discounts, multi buy offers & improved records for accounting etc.

I do actually buy quite a bit of stuff for my small business on Amazon so I thought why not give it a try if it's free so clicked the link. However during the sign up process they require a different mobile phone number to the one on my personal as you can only have 1 account per phone number.

I only have 1 mobile & pretty much everyone I know has an Amazon account so I can't just use my partners number etc (plus that could be a PITA), so does anyone have any suggestions/options for how best to proceed?

Cheers :)

    If your phone can take a second SIM then buying a cheap deal might be an option (I've just taken out a cheap Lebara contract for an additional SIM using a MSE deal), or if you only have a single slot but you have a compatible phone you could consider an eSIM.

    Make a mobile number up and make a note of it?

    After all what is the mobile number going to be used for?

    Delivery notifications would seem to be one thing the number would be used for, which could potentially go to a complete stranger who also could have an Amazon account.

    Personally I don't want some random notifications about someone else's deliveries, orders etc. it would make me concerned about fraud on my account.

    There's also the possibility the number would be used for OTP - so you'd need to have access to the number for that.

    Or you could get a free sim, use the number from that and then by some miracle if its needed you can simply activate it

    Unfortunately I can't just make a number up as Amazon sends security codes to your mobile number that you need to enter to sign up.

    Once signed up as long as you stay signed in & you use the same electronic devices etc hopefully you'll not need to use the mobile number very often. However I've read on other forums where people have used their partners number for example it became a real pain when: they need to change anything regarded as security sensitive, or they sign in from a new device or place, or if Amazon just randomly wants you to use a mobile code & the person's partner was out & busy at work etc so they couldn't sign into their account for best part of the day.

    The only solution I'd thought of so far was also the 2nd sim card idea. Again a bit of a rigmarole just to be able to sign into Amazon but apart from that I'm out of ideas personally.  :| I'd definitely need to activate the card as you need it to sign up & then you also need it for the odd occasion when Amazon wants to double check your identity. I'd also have to look into what cards I can keep going long term with little to no usage as I think most sim card providers require you to have a certain amount of activity, otherwise they just disable the card due to inactivity.

    It seems a bit daft to me that Amazon constantly badgers me to also open up a business account but won't allow me to have it connected to the mobile on my personal account as not that many people have 2 mobiles these days.

    This sounds like a call for rwg;

    https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/offers/order-a-sim-with-£1-credit-added/

    5p per minute or 5p per sms.
    1 call or text every 90 days or the account could be restricted (call them to lift the restriction before 180 days or number is cancelled.)
    Your £1 credit should last you about 5 years if you send a text every 90 days.

    Or tesco mobile and transfer to lite tariff, 8p/4p;

    Thats some great info thanks, looks like the rwg sim may be the least hassle way to go :)

    Amazon's security is strange I've never had to use my mobile to verify my identify me and I use multiple devices to order stuff including those at work

    I'm not even sure they have my actual number as I usually use a false one to stop spam , I will check that in a min

    I don't know if it's true but I've heard there's people who signed up years ago for multiple accounts with only 1 phone, before Amazon required a different number for each account & they have been allowed to carry on with just the 1 mobile number for all their accounts.

    When it comes to creating a new account now apparently Amazon have become keen to have a seperate number attached to each, or so I've been told.

    Making up a number is all very well but Amazon use your number for notifications about delivery and also recently (I've found) for sending a security number for you to quote to the delivery person for more expensive items.
