Cancelling Bupa Health Insurance

Hello,

I have a private health insurance with Bupa and I have made several claims in the past few months, using almost all my outpatient allowance. Therefore, I don't think there is much benefit for me in sticking around as I would have to pay myself for any additional appointment, so I was considering cancelling. However, do you think they could ask me to pay back any of the money they already paid? Furthermore, is there anything else I should consider/should be worried about, apart from not having the health coverage of course?

Thank you!

I would check T/C as while you have reached claim limit, you may still have to pay the rest of the years payments.

It is actually PMI and not a cash plan?

If its PMI then outpatients is most commonly claimed on but is small fry in claims costs compared to major surgery and then inpatient care so I wouldn't be considering cancelling it just because the outpatient is exhausted! In addition, certainly with my policy, you can only cancel in the cooling off period each year and then only if no claim made. As you are beyond the cooling off you'd be locked into the contract for the remainder of the policy year.

Cashplans are very different and often can be cancelled from the end of the current policy month.

In either case, check the policy book which will say what your cancellation rights are.
