Travel Agent confirmed a hotel booking but didnt book it ! - what are my rights

The hotel is entitled to charge whatever they like, indeed they claimed the booking was refused because the company was selling below the agreed rates. Travel Republic is owned by Dnata who is owned by the government of Dubai and is part of the same group as Emirates Airlines. A letter before action should set the wheels in motion for them to resolve the matter without legal action. This is also a warning that if a third-party company is selling rooms way below the hotel's price and others are offering, it is worth sending an email to the hotel in advance to check the booking exists!3

Final update to close the thread.The travel agent refunded the money I paid direct to the hotel whilst in resort, plus a compensation payment.
All ended well.2
