As for Smile, I'm amazed it still exists as a separate brand - we've had our main joint account with Smile for ages, but the original USP, of being an 'online' bank, has been long lost, as all banks are online, and it now seems a forgotten brand, apart from to those of us with an account.
I would suspect it's probably had its day and could be merged back into Coop (or whatever Coventry go for) branding.
I actually think the 'smile' brand is more likely to be retained than the 'co-op bank' one.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Smile were once trailblazers but those days are long gone. I dumped them this year after a 20 year relationship. They are done as a brand.0

It seems that it has been formally announced by the two parties that they have now agreed terms.

Hi all, as noted by Stuart_W (thank you) a deal has been agreed - though it's subject to regulatory approval and details are still to be finalised.
Here's what we know so far:Co-op Bank customer? You could be moved to Coventry Building Society in future – here's what's happening

I wonder what would happen to Coop current accounts. Coventry use to have current accounts but they decided to close it down.

Either way a current account would still exist.0 -
