Hi, I’ve just checked my current tariff and it is higher than the price cap (eg gas unit price is 7.517 and all the regional gas price caps at the moment are under 7p. Is this allowed and if so how?! I would call them but it would be an hours wait to be fobbed off no doubt

How do you pay?
The quoted prices are for direct debit. Next highest is pre-pay. Payment in arrears is most expensive.0 -
I'd double check whats on your actual bill - the quoted amounts above look suspiciously like the new price cap starting January....

I pay by direct debit but actually it looks like it is cheaper on my actual bills so they may well have changed the tariff to the higher price from January already. Thanks for the replyNetexporter said:How do you pay?

Thank you, you are quite right, this is what they have done - shown the tariff prices as of Jan but not on my bill. Thanks for thatTheMilkmansDad said:I'd double check whats on your actual bill - the quoted amounts above look suspiciously like the new price cap starting January....1 -
I was wondering this also. I've raised a complaint because British Gas are currently showing my tariff as Gas: 7.726p (current cap for cash/cheque Northern 6.832p) and Electricity 29.720p (current cap for cash/cheque Northern 26.643p)! Still doesn't explain why they sent me an email back in September quoting higher kwh rates than the cap allows, Gas: 7.714p and Electricity: 27.976p)!!? Do they quote their standard prices in case the caps are removed or changed even though they're capped at the above rates for the area and payment type?0

What is the name of the tariff you are on, are you sure you havent agreed to some form of fix at some point? Fixes are not governed by any cap.0
