temporary additional insurance or change car
hi i am buying a car from a friend at trade in price, and want to try it out for 2/3 weeks before keeping it or selling it on.
i am in no rush to sell my existing car if i keep the new one.
should i change the car on my existing policy? this results in a small refund, but would cost me to change back if i had to.
or use dayinsure and insure for up to a month at a maximum of £120? this keeps my old car insured too.
not sure which option to take??

Can you keep existing car off road? If so how likely is it to be stolen?

yes can keep it off road and highly unlikely0

Can you not add the new car to you current insurance?
I can with my insurance.
I can do day insurance on another car, it's added to my current policy but it's quite costly.
Or
They'll insure another car for the year. So a new policy on the second car but they double up my no claims bonus so it applies to both policies.
I've done both, one's ok for a few days to a week but with the second one I get the remainder of the premium back on the policy I cancel, if I cancel before the end of either policy.
If it's likely you'll just keep the new car and can park it off road, you can sorn it and swap the insurance over.
But you'll likely need it back on the road when it comes to selling it.0 -
Can't remember where I saw it yesterday, my Halifax account stated I can insure a car temporarily from 1 hour to a few days, e.g. if borrowing a friends car. I don't know if you have to have a Halifax account, but assume this must be available elsewhere.0

Not all insurers allow Temporary Additional Vehicles but it's certainly one to check, for longer durations they tend to be a cheaper option than day insurance.0 -

not sure which option to take??What are you hoping to prove in 2/3 weeks, it's a legal nightmare if anything goes wrong, either buy the car or not. Will you be the owner in these 2/3 weeks, car paid in full?0 -
i paid for a month with dayinsure for £120 so i can drive both and park both on the road.0

Pre covid I got it for a few months at under £30/month renewed it every month until I sold the car, that was with my own insurer.0
