How do I get my credit card refun?

Last year I paid for a stay at a Premier Inn using my John Lewis Credit card which at the time was managed by MBNA. However I had to cancel and was provided with a refund. The problem is that between my making the payment and the refund being processed John Lewis had changed their credit card to NewDay. Because Premier Inn sent the money to a closed account it was sent back to them by MBNA.

Despite a lot of chasing around I am left with the following situation:
Newday say it is nothing to do with them.
MBNA say I need to contact Premier Inn because they sent the money back
Premier Inn say they can’t send the money to a different credit card.

I have asked Premier Inn to send me a cheque or as a last resort at least a credit I can use but at the moment they are not budging.

Where do I stand? What should I do next?

  • At the end of the day it is Premier inn that owe you the money so I would concentrate on them.
    Start by doing a formal complaint - show them exactly what happened to your cards - take it from there.
