Free insulation grants - wait or go direct .

Can anyone give some advice.

I applied for the green grant through the Government website in June on behalf of my mum ,  EON emailed me within 3 days but said there was a massive backlog and would get back to me asap ( but they haven't ). 


In the meantime several of the neighbours houses have had the external wall insulation already started / finished  , I spoke to one of them this morning who gave me a phone number of the people who did the survey on their home . .

When I  phoned the person answering seemed a bit shocked and just stuttered  "hello  not mentioning their company name or anything  , it was only when I mentioned I was phoning about the grant he seemed to relax .

 When I did a search on the phone number nothing comes up on google . I am just worried if it could be a scam or they will do a bodge job.  Is it best to wait for EON to get back to me or go direct.
