A moment's reflection, and fermi for moderator

It is now almost a year since the “Bankruptcy & Living with It” thread was created as a sub-forum of the DFW Board.
As one of the longest serving posters on the subject in its current format, I think I have the right, and the duty, to comment that the problems plaguing the original thread on DFW are just as acute today.
The subject is highly divisive and people at their “wits end” struggling to come to terms with the ultimate financial sanction are easy prey for those who would seek entertainment at other’s expense. The forum can go from an ideal place to seek advice and support to something akin to the most brutal civil war in a matter of hours.
I appreciate the subject has been raised before but the arguments that it’s an open forum, and there are insufficient resources to moderate the thread any more proactively, are starting to look like excuses not reasoned arguments.
In his short absence, I would like to propose Fermi as a moderator for the Bankruptcy board. His presence is as well known on the DFW Board as it is here. I do believe he was actually instrumental in helping the MSE I.T team recover lost data in the aftermath of the DDOS attack, so he must be known to the MSE management.
His analytical mind, and intimate knowledge of bankruptcy are as much his strong points, as his unflappable nature and sense of humour. I can’t recall him once responding to negative comment; indeed when the Board descends to it’s ugly pits he avoids the whole site until things calm down. The only losers there, are the desperate people who are missing out on his invaluable advice.
I’m curious as to what other people think. He may not want the responsibility, but he should be given the chance.
Regards
Richard

Here, here!!!
One thing thats amazed me is that there have been no sign of the BR boards moderators and i don't even know who they arewhich considering i spend the majority of my spare time on MSE, yet know several mods names on other boards, is appalling!
As you so rightly pointed out Richard, BR is a sensitive subject. Speaking personally, i am now a very sensitive person when i discuss the subject and the only person on here who has always avoid any conflict is Fermi.
He has my vote:T
right i'm off to make campaign hats, car stickers, posters etc etc.;) we need a slogan, and lets hope theres no smear campaign against him, i'd hate the incident with the cat, bottle of whiskey and can of baked beans to be dredged up:pThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
I'm casting a vote for Fermi!0

yes my vote goes to femi too, who always has words of wisdom for everybody on here0

As I am over 18 (just):p
I cast my vote for Femmi also.:beer:Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j0 -
Unfortunately I'm too new to this forum to start making recommendations in the area you are talking about, but the
But I wholly agree with the general point being made. I was quite put off from a certain comment made the other day whilst seeking advice. I chose to ignore it, and whilst I'm strong enough not to take things personally, it still made me feel a little uncomfortable in asking for further advice...
Anyway.... Merry Christmas once again!!!!!!!0 -
Thanks Richard, I totally agree with everything you have said and yes you do have the right to say this as you have helped so many people on this board including myself when I joined as a very terrified newbie earlier on in the year.
The support on this board is incredible! and Fermi - if he wishes to accept the role - is one of the best people to fill the position as moderator.
Thanks again Rich for putting your thoughts and this idea forward.
Happy Christmas sweetie:xmassign:

Fermi along with rich/rog and many more helped me many times along the path of BR i've found Fermi a wealth of information always gives so much and asks for nothing in return....Fermi for MOD!We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

As you pointed out Richard_s, the subject has been raised before by another poster who I think has now left this board due to its inconsistent moderation.
If I remember rightly, Martin responded personally in that instance, and demonstrated a complete unwillingness to change the situation due to ‘legal reasons’ I believe.
I agree wholeheartedly, this came across more of an excuse than a reason, as anonymous posters are unlikely to pursue any legal action against Martin, and at the end of the day just exactly what legal action could they take? So to say that answer personally left me a bit confused as to his reasoning is an understatement.
But I don’t want to dwell on the past too much, and if the board owner was to have a change of heart on the matter, then I would fully support your choice Richard_s for the reasons you have stated.
Fermi is indeed this boards greatest asset, and it would be a fitting tribute to such a dedicated poster.

Relatively new to these boards and now through the worst so to speak don't visit as often as I used too.
For what its worth I think this might prove to be a bad idea and get in the way of this individuals ability to pass comment / offer advice, particularly since its been stated they tend to avoid the board when things start getting a bit silly as a moderator he would need to do the exact opposite.
Therefore those in the loop might be better off sounding him out via a PM than an open message particularly since it seems the overall board management is reluctant to go this route anyway.
All the best to all on this forum for Christmas and here's to a hopefully happier new year for all.0 -
