That's why they never ask for earnings. They ask for income, often household income.
Like millions of other over-65s I have no earnings. My income all comes from pensions and savings interest.
Many, many self-employed people choose to take no earnings (salary, wages) from their business, taking dividends instead is more tax efficient for them.0 -
We have always had difficulties getting my wife her own credit card(s).
She has many cards as secondary holder to me.
As she has not worked for ages, she does not qualify however much savings she has in her own name.
She does not apply, she just checks if she is eligible, and the answers are always negative,

I haven't trawled through everyone's answers but I am at a loss as to what the problem is apart from the OP being stubborn and cutting her nose off to spite her face! The OP has already given much more useful information for fraudsters - full name DoB, address, bank account details, NI number etc etc. OP needs to swallow her pride and tell them what they want to know which is probably just for marketing purposes anyway.
In case interested I just opened a fixed rate ISA with Aldermore and they also asked me for the annual income........never hesitated to give it to them3 -
I have recently complied with nationwide’s requestes and although I was concerned at the thought of doing it( better get it done ) I am now still worried I did complete it correctly, my eye sight it is not what it was, I have been a member of theirs for over 45 years. I was unable to get to a branch other wise I would have got them to help if not complete it for me.
getting old has problems, IT being one.
