  • As part of Indra's latest V2H trial then a very long winded application process to have such a unit installed on our property was required with DNO approval being the last hurdle on the list. Duly received with installation completed just last week.
I am aware that in the past, G100 compliance was just one issue for product approval necessary which now appears to have been resolved, but have no idea if this was the sole reason for three previous attempts for us to take part on other similar trials.
While I wouldn't expect V2H install applications in future to take anywhere near the length of time ours has it would suggest that V2H or G is a complex matter and if Chademo are still undergoing trials then any alternative to it may have quite a journey ahead before a product and it's system becomes ready for release to the general public.

Do these V2H systems need DNO approval?
It might. We got our application for V2G denied by the DNO, as we were at export limit. The kit at the time had not been certified to cap export at a lower level, or zero.

But V2H systems will presumably need DNO approval, the same as a home battery, even if export is zero. So if a zero export application is required for a home batt (I think that's correct), then logically the same would apply to V2H, to ensure that the kit involved is certified/approved by the DNO to prevent export, even if something goes wrong. My logic here is that the V2H is interacting with the house, which in turn is grid-tied.

I'm guessing that V2L doesn't need approval, since it's powering a device or three, not grid-tied?
However, as we have now entered the era of more and more households being exposed to Smart tariffs (e.g. Octopus Flux) it would be a disincentive to me if V2H attracts a DNO export glass ceiling. Yes, it's primary purpose is to minimise imports to the home, however the ability to export helps ROI and the increasing uptake of EVs with all the green benefits that brings. EV's hold no interest to me unless they can power the home, are allowed to export and are compatible with a "home gateway / island mode" functionality.
