AFAIK the spare wheel isn't part of an MOT so no reason to look, and can't be anything about damp seats as they might just been cleaned.

just before you take the car for MOT pull the spare wheel out and use rags to dry up the standing water from the spare wheel well so when they look at the spare it is not sat in a puddle1

l used to think if the spare was in the car it had to be legal but that does not seem to be the case now. so if you had a spare it could not be bald but it appears that no longer applies0 -
it never has been part of the mot

Look under the spare wheel. Is there a rubber plug, yes. Pull it out.Sorted.Could leak in through boot seal, light seal, rear window etc.We took out everything fron the boot.lined it news paper.Went through a car wash twice.Followed the trickle of water. It was the air vent on my old rover. Took it out and sealed it with silicone.0

40+ years ago, my boss and I both got brand new company Cortinas. His was 2.0, mine 1.6 (I knew my place).
Anyway, both boots filled with water. His spent weeks in and out of the dealers. I drilled a small hole in mine : problem solved...0 -

Looks like I might have been right.
25 plus years later leaking vents are still and issue.
Watch this.
His fix is the best, easy fix from inside or out side.
Squeezing hand into channel below the light and see if wet.
If wet look under the car and find rubber grommet. Push it up and let out water.
Squeezing hand in near light again take away rubber grommet and forget all about it.
Bumper off is a big job.

How come 40 years ago, when we drove round with the bungs removed to let the water out, the car wasn't filled with mould?Nowadays the first sign of a water leak is the mouldy smell as you inhale life threatening amounts of deadly spores. Was it the massive air pollution then that inhibited growth, or was it the lack of modern plastics?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
