Removing metal camlock from Ikea malm drawer carcass

My son accidentally attached a piece of the top of the carcass of the Ikea drawers the wrong way round but is having difficulty removing two metal camlocks so it can be taken apart and corrected.

As I understand it, the camlock needs to be turned to be released and either reused or if damaged replaced. It seems the problem is getting the camlock to turn so it can be released.

Does anyone have any experience and advice please?

Correct. You just need a good screwdriver.

They only need to turn around 90 degree's. We did have one set that "latched" on the back edge when I went too far in a similar situation.

If you do damage it then they normally have spares for free in store at the customer service counter (Reading have hoppers full of them on the wall so you can help yourself)

Check where the arrow is pointing (it's lightly marked on the lock)  and turn it so it is facing the other way. Then extract the locking nut and very gently pull the two pieces apart. If you can turn the carcass upside down, or get a screwdriver between the two parts to give the lock a push, it will help.
  • Thank you to all for your advice.

I'm pleased to say that although one camlock was damaged it was removed and a replacement picked up from Ikea customer services this morning. The other camlock was released intact.

The piece has now been fitted correctly and the drawers will be completed soon.
