Car insurance cancellation

Hello all , not sure if this is the right thread but hope someone can help. my son received a letter from the car insurance company giving him 7 days notice as they will cancel the car policy due to the fact that in error he failed to change the ownership of the vehicle on the policy as it was still under his partner's name and the policy was under his name.
Anyway prior to them cancelling the policy on him he decided to cancel the policy with them and make arrangement with a different car company to ensure coverage (this time with the correct details) .
He received confirmation from the old insurance company confirming the cancellation from the policy holder before they actually cancelled on him and their record show that the policy holder cancelled the policy and not the insurer .
Do you think his record will be clean? , ie not show that they were going to cancel on him ? I know its a bit of a loop hole but want to ensure that he declares that policy has been cancelled on him only if it is actually fact .

It's not a loophole and is exactly what people on this board will advise if there is a risk of having a policy cancelled.
And as the company did not cancel will not be reported as a cancellation.1
