    Not at all, I know quite a few people who have eloped or booked into the registry office and not told anyone at all!

    If you both have small and well behaved families you can do the registry office+ meal out thing.

    Any form of eloping is simpler on the day, but then you have to deal with potential hurt feelings when people find out.

    You may of course be able to keep a secret, but that'll be challenging over _decades_ , when people start asking you about IHT planning and so on.
