If you wonder why your car insurance premium renewal is so high, it's partly because search companies like Confused.com are being kicked back huge amounts for pushing punters towards their clients. Currently, if you go through Topcashback to access confused.com you wiull save £45/ per premium you take out.

It's been like that for years, nothing has changed.

I use TCB every year and always get a bung and it's not £45 across the board all the time, the best I ever had was £80.80 from Esure.

The only difference is that aggregators get a fixed sum irrespective of the amount of premium. Brokers and other intermediaries traditionally get a percentage instead. On an average premium its works out about the same but high premiums the broker does better, low premiums the aggregator does.

Compared to most products the margins are really small, if you think £45 is big commission on an average £776 sale. Back in my mail-order days the smallest markup we had was 100% and some of our self branded clothing etc was more like 900%
