RM parcel missing

Came back from a few days away to find a Royal Mail card through the door stating parcel left ‘grey bin’ several days earlier. No sign of parcel anywhere (bin hadn’t been emptied).

Spoke to usual postie and he said as it was dated a Sunday delivery, it would be agency staff and ‘they were a law unto themselves’ and it shouldn’t have been left in or by a bin. Reported it online and it was referred to local delivery office. Given them the stated 72 hours and not heard back, so will have to phone them tomorrow.

Problem is I have no idea what the parcel is or who it’s from, other than I don’t get a lot of parcels and it was actually my birthday weekend. Do I just have to take the loss even though RM didn’t act properly?

Unless you can find out what was in the parcel, I don't see how you can ask Royal Mail for compensation as currently you cannot give them a value for the missing item.

You can complain to them and may get a book of stamps in return.

Its the sender that has the loss not yourself and unless you can find out who sent it you are probably out of luck.

Reminds me of when my niece asked if I liked my present.  First I’d heard of it, so she sent me the proof of delivery photo which certainly wasn’t my front door.  Went for a wander and found it still outside front door on neighbouring street but if she hadn’t mentioned it I would have been none the wiser.
