Does anyone else think that First Direct are using a stupid system for this? It is also happening to me at the end of December. They are going to spend five days opening a savings account with a measly 2% interest which I am obviously going to close straight away. Why not just put the money straight into my current account? They have had one year to prepare the paperwork! Anyway rant over

FD have quite a few weird systems that are out dated & offer a sub standard service compared to other banks (lord knows how they get these high scores for service). However, after finding out on here, that if you contact them (I did via online app chat) they did move it into current account fairly quickly. I know many don't see the issue in this, but you really shouldn't have to do this & should just mature on the real actual date automatically.
I know some things are wired and outdated, but you spoke or typed a real person who took action and resolved you issue there and then.
That’s why they get good reviews.
FD, wins for me two ways, best customer service, plus most good Will gestures around 2k from memory.
Second place TSB  £1100 for their screw ups.
Third place, Chase £500. They give £50 per issue.

The point is, I shouldn't have to
And the fact you've previously admitted to using their rubbishness as a cash cow just highlights this. If I was a shareholders, I'd be furious at the amount that gets dished out for poor service. Just get things correct in the first place & then there's no reason to complain or pay compo. It's a weird business set up that they do things on the cheap then just pay off the complaints rather than fixing the problem.

Chase seriously Fxxd up my wife's account, and just got a string of fob offs point blank refusing to sort the proble or reimburse lost cashback. They're nowhere near the top for customer care as far as I'm concerned.

Why not leave the savings account open (empty) so any future RS maturities are quicker?
  • Just wanted to report a good experience with FD, my first RS with them matured yesterday and funds were deposited in the savings account I had opened same working day (thanks MSE’ers!). New RS applied for this morning, looking forward to fixing at a market leading rate for a further 12 months.

I have one maturing on Wednesday but at some point today it disappeared from my app and I have just finished applying for my next one. Already have the easy access saver, but will probably get in touch via app chat on Wednesday morning to manually transfer maturity proceeds into my current account. I had hoped this year things will be more automated, but I guess it's still not a priority.

This year my proceeds reappeared already moved to my easy access saver, so I was able to move it myself. My new RS account appeared the next day.

Exact same here - Wednesday mature - gone from app - new one applied for - all good as far as I am concerned - as in past years money will be available in my easy access saver and will be transferred away on Wednesday  :)

I'm sure mine would too if I did nothing, but I also think this might be via a manual process at FD, so I'm not convinced it will appear promptly on Wednesday, hence the initiative to ask them to move it to my current account.

But wouldn't you miss out on the extra day(s) interest @ 7% if you did that? Mine was available in my savings account on Sunday, and I received interest to Saturday inclusive.

I will move away on maturity date, which is the maximum days' interest at 7% secured. If I understand your point above correctly, you earned 1 day's interest (Saturday night) at the lower rate in the easy access and not at 7%?
