Leicester - Highfields bargains!

keatergreyhound,
If you can get up to Narborough Road, Fame Fashions is apparently good for kiddies clothes. Also, hopefully when Primark does finally open in place of Allders in town, they should have a children's section.
For veggies in the Highfields area, try Green Lane Road (think it's called Johnson's).

I'm originally from Leicester - Whetstone.
I'd love to move back up there as I now live with my Husband (originally from Coventry) and 2 sons in Portsmouth (He is in the Navy and I was)
I love coming up to Leicester (relative visiting) - it is 100% better than this hole I now live in.

I remember Whetstone being useful for one thing when I was there.
It has a refuse tip.
Shame actually because it's a nice area heading towards the countryside - I have a relative in Broughton Astley, and can guess that Whetstone is a good place for taking a walk as it seemed a quiet place.
Leicester and Coventry are devoid of character - Leicester just has nothing, and the people who built the centre of Coventry should have been shot before they were able to do it. I call it Concrete City.
Oh well, you love coming off at junction 21, and I love getting on at junction 21 (well, the M69 starts at the same point).
If I had a choice, I'd love to have the coast nearby rather than being stuck bang in the middle of the country.0 -
Leicester has plenty of character. The council should be shot though for allowing those ugly seventies buildings to go up in town in particular. Certain parts of Leicester are better than others. For instance it is well know fact that the London Road side of Leicester is nicer/ posher than the Narborough Rd side of Leicester. Of course it depends on where you live, however the houses seem to be more expensive round the London Rd side. With all this global warming and the predictions that Britain is going to end up half under the sea, it is probably a good thing Leicester is the furthest city from the sea.0

been in Leicester 30+ years and it doesnt get better with age...
agreed they should never have put up ugly 70's houses, but likewise they shouldnt be knocking down old buildings and putting up new ones - we should be proud of the heritage and the history and make those buidling live again.
There are plenty of places I would prefer to live, but since my partner wants to be near his family then I have to stay here!0
