    Condolences for your loss.

If your Mum has 'lots of savings', they are presumably generating an income which she can add to her pension income to help meet any eligibility criteria.

    Good luck.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

I tried telling a bank that once, as I had considerable savings which I was drawing on during the period between early retirement and getting the pension. It didn't work. There had to be proof of income from employment or pension.

I have applied for at least 12 credit cards in recent years, mainly for interest free stoozing.

I have never once been asked for proof of income.

The banks and CC companies can of course see my banking and credit record on Experian and other credit agencies.

The OP's Mum does not have a credit record so maybe it will be different for her.
