    I suspect this is what happened... And then the OP didn't check the app / statements etc. which would have identified the issue sooner.


    But how?  If the account (s) details were sent to the parents, they would have realised that there were two accounts for the same child and check what had happened?

    Did HSBC specifically advise that two accounts had been opened and identify which was which?

    If there is confusion, it seems to me that the responsibility lay as much with the bank as with the parents.

    And I would still write to complain.

    Seems to me that there's little value in going round in speculative circles - at this stage there are clearly more questions than answers, so hopefully OP will clarify when they return to the thread and appropriate and relevant guidance can follow then....
