There is a contract.Arunmor said:With inflation the way it is, then I don't think it's unreasonable but then again most transactions like this where I come from in Scotland there will be no contract and it will be settled with a handshake or a nod of the head.
Except in a few special cases a contract doesn't have to be written or signed. A contract is just a 'meeting of minds', an agreement between two people to do something, so a handshake or a nod of the head is fine.
99% of contracts are made like this. Of course a problem with a verbal contract might arise afterwards about exactly what was agreed.

Inflation was equally high in Jan when the OP made the booking, if the kennel had taken a £160 refundable deposit then both parties could have withdraw from the contract penalty free allowing the kennel to cancel the booking and offer a new one at the higher price, they opted not to do this in their interest so inflation is their tough luck.Arunmor said:With inflation the way it is, then I don't think it's unreasonableIn the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces1
