was this the typical office walk where the laptop is open and you are both looking at/discussing something on display or just that you were carrying a closed laptopMisstic said:
I wasn't expecting them to be there. I was walking with my laptop talking to a colleague. I fell flat with laptop still held.Marcon said:
That doesn't automatically put the 'culprit' (or your employer) in the wrong. Playing devil's advocate, why didn't you see the boxes and avoid them?Misstic said:Hi had a fall a few months at work due to someone leaving boxes by their desk.

Which sounds as if you were not looking where you were going.Misstic said:Laptop was open and yes- walking and talking...If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1 -
Whether you were 'expecting them to be there' isn't the issue. You weren't looking where you were going or you could reasonably be expected to have seen them, so hard to see how your employer could be blamed. Employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety, so wandering around staring at a laptop probably won't get you much sympathy from your employer - but still worth asking if they'll give you paid time off for physio appointments, because having an employee restored to full health is better than one in pain.Misstic said:

Not sure what sort of office you think is 'typical' but wandering around looking at a phone or laptop is asking for trouble, as common sense alone would dictate.LightFlare said:

I was trying to be diplomatic and not jumping to conclusions/being accusatory -- but it seems as though I was rightMarcon said:

Sadly OP -- I don't think you have a case as you admittedly tripped while not looking where you were going1 -
I hope the boxes were promptly moved ... trip hazards were always a priority with me!Signature removed for peace of mind1

I think that's a pretty sporting response on your part, given the replies. Hopefully it'll keep you out of the clutches of the ambulance chasers beseeching you to use their 'free' service to make a claim for an accident. Fingers crossed your employer supports time off for physio...Misstic said:Thanks for the feedback, it's helpful to get an objective perspectiveGoogling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!2
