Evri max parcel size 245cm

Is this some sort of standard courier measurement, or just something evri have made up?
they say "We also have a maximum volume of 245cm, to calculate this yourself you just need to add together the 2 shortest dimensions and multiply this by 2. Add the length and if the number you get is less than 245 then you're good to go"
volume should be measured in cm3? would it not be easier to say multiply the 3 dimensions and if it's less than x cubic centimetres it's ok
seems to me like it's just to confuse people so they can charge extra fees

It's to stop parcels being too long.
if you have a parcel a 100 cm 100cm 100cm it's a meter cubed.
that same meter cubed could be 1000cm 20cm 50cm
