in Credit cards
Hello everyone,
I'm planning on doing some major shopping in HoF on boxing day and would like to take advantage of 10% off when opening a credit card with them.
To make the best of the offer, I'd pay off the balance at the first statement.
What I'm acutely concerned of though, is being rejected. (OMG, can you imagine, at the till, boxing day queues..."computer says no!") I'm a student who works a lot during holidays, but am still a bit unsure about whether or not I'll be accepted. Does the fact its a bank holiday make any difference?
Has anyone else got a HoF card (or any GE card - debenhams, topman etc).....what questions are asked at the till etc?
Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I opened a Debenhams card recently for the same reason and I didn't get asked anything much, not even income details.
With Debenhams my initial 10% deal lasted a full week, not just for the first transaction.
Unless you have a poor credit rating which HoF are able to check on the spot, then I don't think you'd be declined- they might just start you off with a lowish credit limit. Good luck, let us know how it goes.0 -
Thanks missyg; did they ask you your occupation?0

I applied for a Dorothy Perkins card and got refused, which was a tad embarressing, but I'd just moved house. I had to fill in a form with quite basic things like addresse etc, I don't think they asked for salary details, then the assistant phones up a number and someone at the other end seemed to either ok it (or not in my case!)0

I'm sorry Johnny, I honestly can't remember if they did or not, but I am self employed with sometimes erratic income and that didn't seem to stop me getting the card.0

Thanks missyg; think I'll just go for it.....if they say no, then at least I don't embarass easily!0

just a bit of advice, usually big dept stores have a place set aside especially for opening accounts - like by customer services etc - perhaps you could go there first to apply for the account before you shop.
That way you won't have the big 'embarassment factor' if you are turned down at a till in a queue of people, plus you'll know where you stand before you even look at buying anything.
Enjoy your shopping and merry christmas! xx* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

Hi,
Just got back from HoF, and it was good news.
They asked me for name and address plus ID (a bank card was OK), put it through and I was accepted for the mastercard version with a £1k limit. Crazy really, considering I'm a student (was chatting to till op; she knew I was a student, but that didn't seem to be a problem). Thanks to all who have replied. Have a peaceful New Year.0
