Second for insuring car on the Admiral policy and buying bolt on learner insurance. You may find insuring for 270 days is not that much more expensive.

Have you looked at taking out a policy in his name with him as the main driver and both his parents as named drivers. For our daughter this was by far the cheapest way and no black boxes involved.

The real cost was when she passed and her insurance then tripled on the same car.

  • Try Collingwood, VW Polo 1.4 was just £210 on a annual learner policy in my daughter name.

I used Collingwood when my youngest was learning, we were very happy with them.

A word of caution though car insurance in general is going through the roof and I think you may be horrified how much you will pay when they pass their test.  My daughter Skoda Monte Carlo 1.2 Estate  Insurance Group 12) no accidents or claims so should be collecting NCD.

Year 1 (2021) = £276  (I still can't figure out how it was ever that cheap, even queried it, no black box etc)
    Year 2 (2022) = £550
    Year 3 (2023) = £770

  • Insurance for learner drivers in their own car used to be cheap, probably because the insurer knew the driver wouldn't be driving it on their own etc. Price shoots up after test is passed.
Signature on holiday for two weeks
  • I think you will be nicely surprised, I’ve just insured my 17yo daughter fully comp on her own car (a 2012 Peugeot 2008) for £288 for the year with her as the main driver and me as the named driver with Collingwood Insurance really helpful too x

Is that full insurance or learner insurance?  Double check it.
