DISABILITY CAR INSURANCE

I am entitled to a Gvt car but prefer my own, a 2nd hand VW Caddy Life 2017.  I use a wheelchair so inside its adapted. The previous owner drove from his wheelchair, so the car floor is S shaped. It also has an automatic tailgate and ramp and the steering wheel has a spinner knob. The car suspension also lowers. My issue is insurers always ask the engineering specifics of the alterations and I have no real idea what these are beyond suspension, Also do I put hand steering changes just because it has a steering wheel spinner? The conversion company say they can't supply details anymore.Forms do not provide boxes so you can explain, only things to tick Ive no idea of. I am very deaf as well so I can't just ring up a broker. I am retired (I am 66) so I don't know how my age will affecct my insurance either. Any tips please?

Firstly, avoid Admiral.... even though you have to declare modifications they don't actually insure them so your total loss valuation would be of a standard Caddy and not factor in the changes.

Secondly you just need to declare all the modifications that have been made, as they are not performance enhancing nor aesthetic changes that may lead someone to think its a higher performance vehicle then they're unlikely to cause a large movement in premiums but still need to be called out.

Unfortunately web forms tend not to be too good at dealing with modifications, especially those for disability rather than performance. Whilst I note you say you're deaf presumably you do use something like BT's Relay UK? After doing online quotes but before buying I'd call up and speak to the short listed provider(s) and make sure they are happy that all the mods have been appropriately captured.
