    Hi,
I had a someone around to draw up plans for some internal building work in my house. They told me it would be very expensive to knock down an internal wall (highlighted in yellow) because it was originally an outside wall, therefore it is a supporting wall. Instead they advised extending a different room to get extra space (green drawing on floor plan).
Is it an absolute "no way" to knocking down a supporting wall, or just more complicated (& a bit more costly) than knocking through a non-supporting wall?
I have attached the floor plan in case that helps.
    Thank you

If it is supporting a wall above its is hard to support this until you have the steel beams in place even when steel is in place getting it to actually support the wall above would require padstones able to withstand crushing strenghts once supports are removed
There could be a issue with the rear wall having very little tying it in to the building.
The small projections adjacent to the doorways in the dining room what are they supporting?

From what the OP described I would guess they are the remains of part of the original rear wall of the house (the dining room previously having been extended outwards by ~2m).  If so, then probably supporting the first floor rear wall and roof, and likely to be why the OP has been advised of the expense of removing the highlighted wall.

But without seeing a first floor plan and some pictures, that is just a guess.
