Interesting one.
I've literally just had an email from Ebay saying the energizer batteries I bought have been flagged as they could pose a potential safety risk.0 -

I've just replaced two AirTags which were first used in August 2022. Had to replace one earlier, think about two months ago, all from the same batch of four. Can't remembr about the other one.

If you mean replaced the AirTags rather than replaced the batteries - what was wrong with the AirTags?
Since I thought they had replaceable batteries?

No, missed out the word 'batteries'!

As you say, I have several original SmartTag and I easily get a year out of them.
I was suprised Samsung seemingly launched the SmartTag2 in secret, I only learned of it it a few months ago by mere chance when browsing for a watch upgrade.Know what you don't0 -

You can buy 4 ST2's for £76 direct from Samsung at the moment.
I looked at the spec for the new smartwatch 6 and it's pretty hard to justify an upgrade to my SW4 - there really is sod-all significant difference.0 -

The difference for me was the OS change from Tizen to Wear OS (but appreciate that doesn't apply to you as the SW4 uses Wear OS) and the additional health monitoring. I don't want to turn this too morbid, but the built-in ECG scanner actually detected a pretty serious heart condition, which had the diagnosis confirmed by a doctor last week. For this alone, it's been worth it's weight in gold for me.
In your position though, I could completely understand that the upgrade from 4 > 6 isn't very exciting. There doesn't seem to be much innovation in the watch space, except harder glass, thinner bezels, higher res screens, slightly faster processors (how fast does a watch need to be...) and more health monitoring.
