Has anyone had any experience or knowledge of the above mentioned company? We recently had a letter from them about potentially claiming compensation for powerlines on our property.  I'm very sceptical for a number of reasons;
*The number of scams recently
*The fact that we don't have any powerlines on our property, but very close to it, close to going over our garden
*Knowing how easy it is to get fake positive reviews online (after trying to research them
*Thinking that if it was genuine, then surely would have heard about about it other than a random letter through the post

So I thought I'd post in here to ask :-)

    You are right to be sceptical.  I've not heard of Powerline, but there are a number of other companies that offer a similar service for a percentage of the compensation paid.

    They tend to  initially work off of Google Earth satellite imagery.  If you actually have no powerlines crossing your property, then it is unlikely that you can get any compensation.

    I do have a powerline crossing my property and negotiated compensation directly with the powerline owner, SSE.

    Scam or scum using the term "Advisory".

    They're a marketing company looking for greedy, ignorant or lazy people.

    Either way they're cold callers so you shouldn't be communicating with them.
  • I posted their business reply envelope empty

    Hi, can you please advise the steps you follwed? or how you contacted them?
    I moved into a property were there is a substation next to my garden, so I think there might be cables underground running to the other properties, so I want to contact them, first for the compensation, it will help, but also because I have to move the soakway and dont want to get a surprise when working.

    Thanks

    You contact your local electricity board.

    There is no automatic right to compensation and the deal may have already been done and nothing further would be payable. Sometimes they may negotiate, other times they may already have wayleave and there is nothing more to pay.

    If you suspect there are power cables where you intend to dig then you need to contact the energy board to make sure, if there are there may well be details of this in the information when you bought your home so you should double check that first. Anyone digging should check first with cable and pipe detectors rather than risking digging through a power line or a gas or water main.

    As above.  I just used the SSE website and navigated to the appropriate page.  This will depend on who the owner of the cables are.
