Downpipe fixing

Hi
I've just dismantled a guttering downpipe to unblock the joins at the top.
Having a bit of trouble though fixing it in place as it was. The downpipe meets with a collection box/junction for the conservatory and was held in place with the three wall clips.
It didn't rely on the box to support it but now the pipe just slides through the clips.
It's not easy fastening them as I'm working from around the side.
Just wondering if the clips are supposed to grip the pipe.
Any help appreciated.

Yes the clips should grip the pipe but they are not always successful
In the past I have used a self tapping screw to fix the clip to the downpipes, screwed in enough to grip it but not through it (the downpipes)1 -
Hi,or maybe plastic or rubber wedges between pipe and clip.2

Nylon washers used as packers, would be out of sight and not rust.frugalmacdugal said:Hi,or maybe plastic or rubber wedges between pipe and clip.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke2 -
Thanks, that's done the trick.frugalmacdugal said:Hi,or maybe plastic or rubber wedges between pipe and clip.
I've stuck a couple of strips of motorbike intertube onto the inside of the clips. Grips well now just with the two lower ones in place.

Usually you can just squeeze the clips to the pipe before you tighten the screws into the wall. That flashing might need a bit of attention too.1

Yes. I can do that with the lower clip from a stepladder but not with the higher ones.Lorian said:Usually you can just squeeze the clips to the pipe before you tighten the screws into the wall. That flashing might need a bit of attention too.
Have to tighten the screws one handed from a ladder due to the conservatory.
The lead flashing might need looking at but access is a problem as the roof won't take my weight.
It doesn't leak though.1
