Not For EU Food

In purely practical terms, Brexit HAS had a big effect on food. When Operation Brock was in place, food was literally rotting in trucks on the M20. Deliveries e.g. online orders were delayed and there were severe shortages in supermarkets. Took husband six hours to get home from Portsmouth and four hours from Surrey. Journey time from Surrey using back roads was faster than trying to use gridlocked M20 with queues starting on M25.
Shortages are hidden by smaller ranges. Iceland has fewer cheeses. No UK supermarket other than Ocado, now stocks black pepper Boursin or Badoît. Tesco and Sainsbury's have both removed aisles and replaced them with concessions or non-food aisles.
Husband went to Aldi and B&M last weekend. No Specially Selected Pesto or Mozzarella and no shelf labels for them, in Aldi. In B&M, not a single bottle of European wine. Tesco removed Eastern European food from their store in Folkestone completely and pulled it from the World Foods aisle in Dover and stuck it right at the back.

I'm sure that's not what people voted for. Was moving food to the back of stores part of the withdrawal agreement?MrsStepford said:Tesco removed Eastern European food from their store in Folkestone completely and pulled it from the World Foods aisle in Dover and stuck it right at the back.4 -
Brexit has had no effect on the food, we just see less of it because some companies won't go through the rigmaroll of getting it through our red-tape-heavy customs.MrsStepford said:In purely practical terms, Brexit HAS had a big effect on food. All the UK supermarkets have more non-food aisles because christmas nonsense. Brexit hasn't had an effect on that, either. It won't apply to Ocado as they're online only (I think?) and so have no aisles, non-food or otherwise."One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate change policy is environmental policy. Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world's wealth." - Ottmar Edenhofer, IPCC economist, interviewed at COP161 -
Asda still advertise the black pepper Boursin and Badoit stopped supplying the UK market as the parent company wished to protect the local French market following droughts in the country.MrsStepford said:In purely practical terms, Brexit HAS had a big effect on food. Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0 -
Living in Kent, we have seen the trucks and been caught up in queues. It's happening. Also seen empty aisles. Blame it on paperwork rather than Brexit if you want, but the govt has declined to bring in checks on food arriving via the EU (not all EU origin) abt four times now, to avoid traffic snarl ups. Kent Trading Standards has caught rotten meat coming in.1

I would say those are the same thing, if we hadn't left the EU then European suppliers wouldn't need to get things through customs. The act of leaving the EU caused more paperwork for EU companies supplying the UK.YoungBlueEyes said:
