Ford Fiesta import? Anything worse than UK model?

Options
Thinking about one of these fiesta's from Motorpoint, they are European imports as 1.3 engine's - anyone tell me of anything worse about this European model???

For example is the engine the older model?

All in all seems a pretty decent price especially as I can use £3k of tesco deals

with import models, the main differences tend to be with the spec rather than the engine. Import models are more likely to have aircon but then they might not have some other features that UK models may have. Either way, if you are happy with wht you're getting for your money, who cares??

Is it the 1.25 Zetec? I'd rather buy from a Ford Direct dealer as the prices if I am comparing similar models appear to be cheaper.

Is that the 1.3 engine that was with Noah on the Ark?

Get a 1.25 Zetec (or the 1.4) as they are afar superior engine

Couldn't make the link work, but if you're looking new(ish) there are some strong discounts on some models with you as first owner, too!

Also plenty of other good value & more modern/better super mini models around. Fiat Punto are now appearing on the used market in reasonable numbers & are well priced new, anyway!

Check Best Deals in www.honestjohn.co.uk genuine available discounts on ALL makes. It'll save the confussion of buying a non-UK spec motor!

Hi, thanks for the replies so far - have amended the link and it sort of works now...

    - Zetec 1.25 is the same engine as all the 1.25's (duratec) - only difference is the alloy wheels these days isn't it.....?

    - The car is £6,700 pre-reg which is great value compared to other cars (£3k saving on the rrp), I don't have to have a fiesta but think they are very good cars as my partner has an 8 year old one and it has been brilliant!

    - With my tesco vouchers the car will be £3,700 - I doubt a dealer could beat this ;)

    - Ok maybe the fiat punto's are better than they used to be but I'm afraid I'd never buy one still, everyone I've known thats had one has had huge problems with them....

The 1.3 engine was called the Endura..... it has 60PS and is based on the older pushrod style engines of the 80's Fords (Crossflow head running with a carb, Single Overhead Cam) The bonus with this engine is that pushrods dont need replacing like timing belts/chains do. Downside is the engine is a little slow and less refined than modern twincam engines. They do burn more oil when they pass the 70000 mark as its an older style of engine.

The 1.25 + 1.4 are far newer Zetec Twincam Injected engines I think they were developed together with Yamaha or atleast the EFi was. The 1.25 has a peppy 75PS and the 1.4 has 90PS (from memory). They rev pretty happy and are good for 70 - 80 on motorways. Downside is the timing belt. Make sure its been done. Also ask about the valves as they sometimes stick a little through lack of engine use. My Escort has a 1.6 Zetec and its not a bad engine although my proton was better.

    Hope that helps.

Only because Motorpoint are known for imports and the engine means it definitely is because there are no 1.3 models in the UK anymore. Another hint is the lack of details given whereas on their UK models they give full specs.

No idea where meant to go to....

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Zetec engine has been replaced by the Duratec (checked the specs on the ford website) and all 1.25, 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 litre engines are now all Duratec.....
