Charge back - non refundable tickets

Options
Hi,

Sorry if wrong thread.

Realised today that tickets have been booked for an event on a day we cannot go, I asked the venue if we could swap dates and they have said no.

Would it be possible to do a charge back on my credit card?

Event was over £70 and we absolutely cannot make the date.

Thanks
M x

The short answer is "no", for 2 reasons. If it were the agent changing the date and refusing an alternative or a refund then you'd have a case but it's the opposite. Secondly, it's below the £100 minimum transaction value.

You can do a chargeback if they have breached the terms of the agreement... in what way have they caused a breach?

There is no minimum amount for chargebacks... S75 has a £100 minimum per item not per transaction
  • As above, you won't be able to claim from your card as the supplier have not breached their contract with you.  The event is going ahead, if you're unable to attend that's not their fault (sorry, that may sound like I'm blaming you, I'm not - just clarifying the legal position !).
You could ask if they're able to re-sell the tickets and give you a partial refund if they can do so - minus an admin charge in all likelihood, which would be not at all unreasonable.  But even that would be a goodwill gesture on their part, they have no legal obligation to do so.
Could you try selling the tickets yourself to friends/family?  Assuming this wouldn't breach any of the T&Cs, of course - you'd have to check.

    In a word NO.
Chargeback does not cover change of mind, or if you can not go.
Only covers if the event does not go ahead.

    Chargeback is a no.

You can sell the tickets either to family/friends or via third party wesbites like viagogo etc.
You could also gift them to someone as birthday or Xmas gift..

Another options, would be to try again asking the venue.. maybe via the phone? Sometimes it really depends on agent you speak with. Or maybe ask on forum of that performer if anyone would like to swap?

I thought that would be the case.

It was for a Christmas market at an estate (similar to national trust) - events on until Jan.

There's still plenty of tickets for the day that was booked so doubt they would resell, I asked if I could exchange them for another day and they refused.

Was booked online and wasn't very clear (thought we had booked for today, turned up to be turned away and told to come back) - tickets are valid for next week, I've tried to offer them to family and friends but everyone's working.

I'll pop em on FB for free and hope some good karma comes my way.

    Thanks anyway

£100 is the minimum for s75, not for chargeback
